1929, Detroit…

Song and dance man, Arnold Eastman, is in trouble.

Mr. Miami is demanding payment on Arnie’s gambling debts. Unfortunately, Arnie can’t pay. So, Miami sends Arnie on the train to Detroit, along with a hoodlum escort, to redeem his marker. All Arnie has to do is bump off the Big Broccoli. Wow!

Caught between a piston and a spark plug, Arnie -- now in Detroit -- rents a room above Mr. Goldfine’s grocery store but soon learns he’s not the only one with problems. Goldfine and the whole neighborhood are being bullied by Solomon Abramovitz, ambitious underleader of the Purple Gang, who is bootlegging liquor and threatening the local merchants with a protection scam.

Goldfine and his friend, Gittleman, follow Arnie to the Broccoli Club where Arnie has convinced Rita Rosen, the Club manager, to hire him against her better judgment. Goldfine and Gittleman meddle in Arnie’s dangerous world of speakeasies, the Purple Gang and the FBI. Can Arnie 86 his problems before he gets 86ed himself?
